The waters outside Valdez are filled with various types of whales. Although no tour company can guarantee a sighting, it would be a shame not to try. And sometimes you beat the beauty of a jumping humpback whale. They make the Prince William Sound a part of their annual summer trek. Humpbacks ar baleen feeders, consuming nearly a ton of food a day. Humpbacks average 45 feet and weigh 35-40 tons. Shot made with Nikon D3000/300 mm tele lens. With the largest population of bears in the world, we had great opportunities to see these wild animals up close against breathtaking landscapes as a backdrop in Katmai National Park, Alaska! In early summer, the bears leave their dens and come to this area for the breeding season and to feed on the grasses that sprout in the spring. We saw the bears as close as 50 yards! Alcatraz Island is an island located in the San Francisco Bay, 1.5 miles (2.4 km) offshore from San Francisco, California, United States.[1] Often referred to as The Rock, the small island early-on served as a lighthouse, a military fortification, a military prison, and a Federal Bureau of Prisons federal prison until 1963.[2] Later, in 1972, Alcatraz became a national recreation area and received landmarking designations in 1976 and 1986. Today, the island is a historic site operated by the National Park Service as part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and is open to tours. Visitors can reach the island by ferry ride from Pier 33, near Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco.
